Alamo Square

WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Potentially one of the most photographed neighborhoods in San Francisco, Alamo Square is home to the Painted Ladies, a row of colorful Victorian houses backed by the city's skyline. Many architecturally significant houses line the perimeter of the square, including the Archbishop's Mansion and the Russian and German Imperial consuls' residences from the early 1900s.

Technically part of the Western Addition neighborhood, the boundaries of Alamo Square are not well delineated. Built-up in the late 19th century, the centerpiece is the stunning park overlooking the shimmering San Francisco skyline and the famous 'painted ladies.' The row of colorful Victorians factor into tours, postcards, numerous TV shows, and films. After the tony Pacific Heights neighborhood, Alamo Square boasts some of the largest homes – by square footage, in the city.
